Pressed coffee keeps the natural oils that a paper filter traps, which is why it tastes rounder and heavier. This press has a heat-resistant borosilicate beaker held in a stainless frame, with a four-layer mesh filter that keeps grit out of your cup. The 34-ounce size makes about four mugs.

Use coarse grounds, around the texture of kosher salt. Add water just off the boil, stir, wait four minutes, then press slowly. Pour everything out at once so the coffee does not keep extracting and turn bitter. Take the plunger apart to rinse the mesh; all parts are dishwasher safe.
