Loose knives in a drawer knock their edges dull and ambush fingers, and a block solves both problems. This one is solid white oak with six angled slots cut to fit most home knives, including a 10-inch bread knife in the longest slot and a honing steel in the narrow opening at the back. The slight backward tilt makes each handle easy to grab.
Knives are sold separately. Slide blades in spine side down so the edge does not drag. Shake out crumbs now and then, clean the slots with a thin bottle brush and a little soapy water, and let the block dry upside down before refilling.
