Grab-and-Go Overnight Oat Jars

4.4443 ratings

Rolled oats, chia, milk, and yogurt soften in the fridge overnight into a thick, spoonable base that you can shake up in a mason jar in five minutes. Swirl in cinnamon apple, peanut butter, or berries so the week never tastes the same twice.

Method

  1. Stir the oats, chia seeds, milk, yogurt, maple syrup, vanilla, and salt together in a large bowl until the yogurt is fully loosened and there are no clumps of chia.

  2. Divide the mixture among 4 pint-size jars, leaving at least an inch of headroom at the top.

  3. Flavor the jars as you like: swirl peanut butter into two and drop berries into the others, pressing the fruit gently into the oats.

  4. Seal the lids, give each jar a hard shake, and refrigerate for at least 8 hours or up to 4 days, until the oats are tender and the mixture is thick.

  5. In the morning, stir well, loosen with a splash of milk if it has set too firmly, and sprinkle with almonds just before eating.

Zest note from the test kitchen

Keep crunchy toppings like nuts or granola in a separate small bag and add them at the last minute; stirred in overnight they go soft and lose the contrast that makes the jar worth eating.
